Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the physical execution of field trials by operating farm equipment (tractors, planters, harvesters) and using digital tools to collect crucial seasonal data.
  • Drive greenhouse plant propagation, disease screening, and breeding population development, alongside in-field forage sampling, drying, and processing.
  • Monitor the research farm for pests, applying chemicals, fertilizers, and treatments precisely according to established protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with the research team and help coordinate temporary employees when necessary, all while ensuring strict adherence to DLF’s quality, compliance, and safety standards.
  • Oversee temporary and hourly employees as needed, foster open communication, and strictly adhere to DLF’s quality, compliance, and stewardship standards to ensure safe operations.

What You Bring

  • An education and experience background including a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, or a related field (or 3+ years of equivalent experience in agricultural research, greenhouse production, or seed technology).
  • A work style that excels both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Licenses and certifications such as a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, a DOT medical card, and a Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • The physical ability to safely lift 50 lbs and experience working in varying field weather conditions, including the willingness to travel up to 15% and put in extended hours during busy agricultural seasons.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and a solid understanding of regional crop production, farm operations, and agricultural chemicals, with technical experience with precision agriculture methods being highly preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Physical working conditions include sitting, bending, or standing while performing data analysis or collecting data.
  • Frequent walking and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Continuous use of hands for repetitive tasks.
  • The position works frequently in the field, exposing the Research Associate to potentially hazardous conditions such as weather, chemical, or slippery conditions of the work area.
