Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a campus of Louisiana State University, is at the forefront of medical discovery related to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia. The Center conducts basic, clinical, and population research, enabling both focused and translational science. Research is supported by multiple NIH Research Centers and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows across 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

About the Role

Pennington Biomedical Research Center is seeking a Research Associate in the Vascular Metabolism Laboratory. This role involves performing various laboratory techniques, collecting and processing biological samples, analyzing experimental data, and assisting in the design and execution of research projects. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in vascular metabolism and support scientific advancement.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory techniques such as cell culture, PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.
• Conduct experiments related to vascular metabolism, including assays to measure metabolic activity and vascular function.
• Collect and process biological samples (blood, tissue, and cell samples) following established protocols.
• Prepare samples for analysis, including extraction, purification, and concentration.
• Analyze experimental data using specialized software and statistical methods.
• Interpret results and contribute to the preparation of detailed reports and scientific publications.
• Assist in the design and execution of research projects, collaborating with senior researchers and interdisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, protocols, and results.
• Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on research developments.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain laboratory equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field.
• Minimum of one year of laboratory experience with techniques such as cell culture, PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry (may include internships, coursework, or research projects).
• Familiarity with sample collection, processing, and preparation methods.
• Proficiency in data analysis using specialized software and statistical methods.
• Understanding of experimental design and data interpretation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting experiments and collaborating with team members.
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three to five years of laboratory experience with techniques such as cell culture, PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.
• Experience in vascular biology, cell research, or metabolism studies.
• Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing, single-cell analysis, or flow cytometry.
• Proficiency in advanced laboratory techniques such as RNA sequencing or proteomics.
• Experience with imaging-based techniques and analysis.
• Experience managing research projects or coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience writing or contributing to grant proposals.
