Purpose of Position
The University of North Dakota (UND), College of Engineering & Mines, is seeking a Research Professor specializing in experimental aerothermodynamics, atmospheric science, modeling/simulation, and propulsion. The position supports research initiatives related to National Security and contributes to UND’s Hypersonic Initiative, expanding research capabilities in this field.Key Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to execute research projectsDevelop new experimental high-speed flow research facilities, including novel weather and projectile platforms
Conduct advanced research in high-speed aerothermodynamics and cloud microphysics
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students
Generate external funding and write innovative research proposals
Required Competencies
Expertise in laboratory experimentation (wind tunnels, optics, projectiles, cloud chambers)Proficiency with high-speed cameras and atmospheric tools
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex research challenges
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related fieldResearch publication record in reputable journals or conferences
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Successful completion of criminal background check
Compliance with U.S. Export Control laws (only U.S. Persons eligible)
Preferred Qualifications
Proven record of securing external research fundingLeadership experience in managing research teams
Prior work related to national security research
