Research Assistant (Physics and Astronomy)

About the role

This part‑term position is to carry out data analysis and scientific research with the VERITAS gamma‑ray observatory under the supervision of Prof. Mukherjee. Tasks include learning the basic analysis software, running VERITAS software on data sets, developing analysis code as needed, and participating in summarizing the research in articles and presentations.

Responsibilities

• Learn the VERITAS data analysis software
• Learn gamma‑ray analysis software as advised by the PI
• Analyze data from the VERITAS Observatory
• Assist in the dissemination of scientific results
• Work independently
• Work on‑campus (no remote work)
• Perform additional duties as needed

Requirements

• Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, or Astrophysics
• Prior research experience is desired but not required
• Proficiency with scientific analysis tools

Pay

$30 per hour, up to 27 hours per week.

Schedule

Part‑time position; on‑campus work required; no remote work.
