Position Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Nephrology is seeking a Research Assistant to work within Dr. Jin Wei’s research team. We are a basic research group focused on the role of the juxtaglomerular apparatus in regulating renal hemodynamics and systemic blood pressure. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Performs experiments, takes care of animals, collects and analyzes data, maintains accurate research records, and assists with general laboratory operations.
  • Supports the principal investigator and research team in executing research projects, interpreting experimental results, and preparing data for presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists in data collection and provides feedback on study’s progress.
  • Recruits subjects to participate in the study by using approved methodologies, such as, reaching to healthcare providers for referrals, visiting clinics, sending mailouts, using approved advertisements, etc.
  • Conducts the enrollment of study participants, including explaining research procedures, and obtaining informed consent of subjects and/or their families.
  • Schedules appointments of study participants; conducts reminder phone calls and/or sends mailouts. Obtains and distributes payment vouchers for participant reimbursements/participation.
  • Manages program records and handles communication needs of the program.
  • Prepares and maintains Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals and correspondence, including amendments and renewals as necessary.
  • Performs administrative duties associated with the study’s Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DSMB.
  • Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.

Job Requirements

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree is required. Major in a field related to the research is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in wet-lab research is preferred. Experience working with animal models (e.g., mice) or willingness to learn animal handling and surgical techniques preferred. Experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, or physiology techniques (such as PCR, Western blot, histology, cell culture, or microscopy) is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols and maintain accurate research records.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with data analysis or statistical software is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
  • Must be able to follow laboratory safety procedures and institutional animal care regulations.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate and confidential research records.

Compensation Range

$16.35- $22.84

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
