Research Assistant in Health Economics and Applied Econometrics

Job Summary

The University of Michigan is seeking candidates for a Research Area Specialist Intermediate position in the LSA Department of Economics. Successful candidates will collaborate on projects related to health economics and applied econometrics.

Responsibilities*

Researchers will lead specialized projects, analyze data, interpret results, design supplementary analyses, suggest improvements, identify and address potential issues, and recommend and implement solutions. They will also assist with data collection, IRB applications, and training research assistants. Effective communication and project management skills are essential for liaising with coauthors, researchers, and external entities. Researchers will draft and edit manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations.

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor’s degree in economics or a related field and 4 to 5 years of related experience (Intermediate Level)
• Bachelor’s degree in economics or a related field and 1 or more years of related experience (Associate Level)
• Prior experience with data analysis and data analysis software
• Highly detail-oriented and competent at following directions
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• A long-term interest in research related to economics

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in economics or related field
• Prior experience in health economics or public finance
• Programming experience, particularly in working with large datasets in software like Stata, SAS, R, or Matlab

Modes of Work

This is an onsite position located in the ISR building on central campus. Positions may be eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode, subject to departmental discretion and annual review.

Work Schedule

Shift: Days, Monday - Friday 9am-6pm with an hour for lunch

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification (Research Area Specialist Associate) if the selected candidate does not meet the qualifications for the Intermediate Level position.

Additional Information

• Salary range: $52,800 to $66,000, with potential for higher salary based on qualifications
• Position is term-limited for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal based on availability of work and funding
• Strong preference will be given to applicants with potential to work for two years
