Research Assistant I - Molecular & Human Genetics

Summary The Tran lab is seeking a motivated and talented person interested in studying mechanisms of neuronal resilience and regeneration in the visual system. The successful candidate will receive direct training from the PI to work independently and contribute to a series of projects. The Research Assistant will gain hands on experience implementing cutting-edge approaches in molecular biology, stem cells, gene therapy, disease modeling, and single cell genomics. Job Duties Prepare and conduct laboratory research experimentsMeet with the PI weekly and present regularly in lab meetingsMaintain an organized electronic lab notebookPerform animal husbandry, weanings, euthanasia as neededProvide support for animal surgeriesMaintain accurate animal husbandry and genotyping recordsPerform primary retinal cell and retinal organoid culturesHarvest tissues for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridizationPerform molecular biology approaches including DNA, RNA and protein extractions, molecular cloning, and PCRMonitor and order lab supplies and reagents as neededProvide administrative support for general lab operationsPerform assigned general laboratory chores Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.Two years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in basic science or a related field.Experience working with mice or rodentsExperience with cell cultureExperience in immunohistochemistryExperience working with DNA/RNA/protein for molecular biology techniques Work Authorization Requirement: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
