Position Title
Research Assistant I
Position Summary
Dr. Ahmed H. Badran’s Laboratory at The Scripps Research Institute seeks to hire a highly motivated full-time Research Assistant I. The Badran Lab is interested in applying synthetic and chemical biology principles to create expanded genetic codes, improve biosynthetic carbon fixation strategies, and develop novel antimicrobial therapeutics. The research assistant would lead efforts towards the creation of robust genetic circuits and reporters for cellular bioactivities, with a focus on importing heterologous machinery in the laboratory workhorse bacterium Escherichia coli. This position will also include optimizing existing techniques and developing improved methods for troubleshooting of synthetic designs.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Work under general supervision.
- Assistance given for unusual problems and normally reviewed for application of sound professional judgement.
- Absorb and apply sound professional judgement when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques.
- Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
- May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results.
- May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan.
- Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
- Requires 1-3 years experience.
- Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 0-2 years experience required.
Compensation
- The expected hiring range for this position is $20.67 to $25.06 per hour, commensurate with experience.
- Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
