Research Assistant
About the role
Candidates must be fluent in Spanish. The Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support to the principal investigator(s) (PI) of the assigned project(s).
Responsibilities
- Provide research and administrative support to the PI of the assigned project(s).
- Aid in meeting the objectives of a HRSA-funded curricular development grant within the Division of General Internal Medicine.
- Assist in data collection through review and analysis of qualitative and quantitative educational data.
- Create educational materials and presentations.
- Aid in writing study reports and IRB applications.
- Assist in preparing scholarly articles and presentations.
- Manage applications for new funding opportunities.
- Support the PI by providing administrative support, including scheduling, processing reimbursements, and assisting with manuscript submissions.
- Conduct research operations such as collaborating on design, documentation, and implementation of curricular innovations and program evaluation.
- Collect data via surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
- Conduct literature reviews and systematic reviews.
- Develop and maintain research gathering, retrieval, and reporting systems.
- Clean, manage, and analyze data.
- Conduct statistical studies in support of research proposals and protocols.
- Coordinate research/program team meetings, take notes, manage project timelines, and ensure follow-up of deliverables.
- Prepare and submit scientific manuscripts.
- Develop scientific presentations in partnership with the PI.
- Apply principles in stakeholder engagement for large-funded projects and grant applications.
- Manage project budgets for participant compensation, reimbursement, and other study supplies.
- Support the PI by managing administrative operations, including assisting with scheduling meetings, drafting and editing correspondence, attending study-related meetings, keeping minutes, and performing other duties as assigned.
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure that the team’s operations, including its file and project management systems, collaboration tools, and dissemination activities, run smoothly and efficiently.
- Assist in supervising and coaching early career employees to support research activities and study coordination.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, sociology, epidemiology or related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 1+ years related experience.
- Fluent in verbal and written Spanish; able to interview research participants in Spanish, transcribe responses in Spanish, and communicate with research participants in Spanish.
- Advanced academic writing and editing skills.
- Knowledge of design software (i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator; Power Point; etc.).
- Knowledge of statistical analysis software (i.e. Stata; SPSS; R; etc.).
- Ability to work with electronic data collection tools (i.e. REDcap; Qualtrics; Dedoose).
- Well-developed organizational and documentation skills; ability to attend to details.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- College coursework in public health, psychology, or related field.
- Masters degree in public health, psychology, or related field.
- CITI Program – Human Subjects Research.

About The Team
The Department of Medicine is the largest department at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) with an annual budget of over $205 million. The Department is divided into 13 divisions and 3 centers. There are 148 fulltime faculty members, and 111 without-salary faculty affiliated with the Department. In addition, there are 420 staff employees, 73 MSP physician appointments, 31 non-faculty academics, 39 post- doctoral scholars, 10 clinical fellows, 67 fellow and resident FTEs, including 3.0 FTE chief residents. The Department operates more than 13 clinics, 4 inpatient medicine services with 9 teams (Resident Inpatient Service -5 teams, Faculty Inpatient Service - 3 teams, Cardiology Service -1 team and MICU Service -1 team), and 15 consultation services. The ZSFG Medicine Service has an annual volume of ~5600 hospital discharges, 52,000 clinical visits, 31,000 specialty care visits, and 18,000 eConsults. In terms of extramural funding, in 2023, ZSFG DOM principal investigators received new awards totaling $166M and earned research revenue of $135M.
