About the role

As a Technologist in Energizer’s Global Auto Care R&D Team, you will work with a team to perform laboratory experimentation and testing of products for this innovative and exciting business. You will provide a key role in the development of new product innovations as well as improvement of current products. The position is based in Westlake, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and is part of Energizer’s Auto Care business—a customer-focused, innovation-oriented, fast-growing consumer packaged goods company. Energizer is passionate about making time in the car more enjoyable with market-leading brands of car air fresheners, cleaning, and conditioning products.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the planning and execution of assigned project steps; plans and executes routine and non-routine experiments and tasks.
  • Collects, records, and transcribes routine and non-routine data; performs routine and non-routine calculations; creates routine and non-routine tables, charts, and graphs; summarizes data and analyzes for exceptions; offers explanations for data exceptions; creates data reports that include conclusions in technical report format.
  • Uses appropriate materials and equipment and understands the underlying principles of use or operation; applies understanding to the planning and execution of assigned program steps, experiments, and tasks.
  • Understands the basic principles, materials, and parts of products and/or devices in assigned area. Designs and conducts experiments, under supervisor guidance, leading to new and improved systems, constructions, or processes having marketable cost/performance advantages.
  • Trains and instructs others to perform routine and non-routine tasks and experiments. Creates training documentation.
  • Coordinates the work of co-workers and interfaces with other R&D product groups, equipment, service groups, and plants to acquire the information and services necessary to execute assigned program steps, experiments, and tasks.
  • Suggests, organizes, and executes experiments leading to new or improved methods and provides full documentation of results.
  • Practices proper safety procedures. Recognizes, reports, and documents unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Provides leadership for others in project work.
  • Participates in and implements department continuous improvement activities. Serves as an ad hoc team member as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three years of pertinent experience/education and a good fundamental understanding of higher-level mathematics, mechanics, general science, and general computer applications.
  • At least 5 years of related experience in a technical laboratory or similar environment.
  • Formulation experience.
  • Experience with test method development.

Work Environment

  • Works in a Research and Development technical laboratory setting.
  • Occasional travel may be required, depending on role.
  • Ability to perform repetitive manual tasks requiring the use of hands, standing for extended periods of time, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Exposure to health risks or conditions may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment, including the potential use of a respirator.

Schedule

This position reports Monday-Friday, day shift. Occasionally, schedule may vary from typical business hours.

Working Relationships

  • Interfaces with supervisor for limited guidance.
  • Works with and provides significant guidance to coworkers as necessary.
  • Interfaces with other groups, suppliers, and manufacturers to acquire necessary information and services.
