About the role

The UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government supports the university's mission of improving people's lives by helping governments, large and small, become more efficient and responsive to their citizens. This includes providing impartial support, convening multi-disciplinary groups, and addressing critical issues facing communities in Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee significant applied research and technical assistance projects related to local government operations, organizational assessments, staffing analyses, financial and expenditure studies, and other public sector initiatives.
  • Direct research design, methodology development, data collection strategies, and project implementation activities.
  • Exercise primary responsibility for the research design, methodology development, data collection strategies, and project implementation activities.

Requirements

Significant experience conducting applied research, organizational assessments, operational analyses, or technical assistance initiatives within local government, higher education, nonprofit, or public sector environments. Proven track record supporting or leading complex qualitative and quantitative research initiatives involving staffing studies, operational assessments, financial analysis, program evaluation, or organizational effectiveness efforts.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a relative discipline and 8 years of professional experience to include 5 years of formal post-degree work.
  • Significant experience conducting applied research, organizational assessments, operational analyses, or technical assistance initiatives within local government, higher education, nonprofit, or public sector environments.
  • Proven track record supporting or leading complex qualitative and quantitative research initiatives involving staffing studies, operational assessments, financial analysis, program evaluation, or organizational effectiveness efforts.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating directly with local government officials, executive leadership, elected officials, or public sector stakeholders on applied research or technical assistance projects.
  • Experience translating complex research findings into practical recommendations, technical assistance deliverables, reports, presentations, or stakeholder communications for client audiences.
  • Competency in supporting project planning, execution, stakeholder engagement, and coordination across multiple concurrent applied research or technical assistance initiatives.
  • Experience presenting research findings, facilitating stakeholder discussions, or contributing to client-facing technical assistance and organizational consulting activities.

Skills

  • Knowledge of applied research methods, organizational assessment practices, and technical assistance approaches related to local government operations.
  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research, analyze data, and develop evidence-based findings and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex organizational, operational, and workforce-related issues.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, reporting, and data visualization techniques used to support research and decision-making.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, project teams, local government officials, and stakeholders while managing multiple priorities and exercising independent judgment.
