Full time, evening shift. Training schedule is on day shift (8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday) for 6–10 weeks, depending on circumstances.
About the role
Provides patient-focused customer service within the Emergency Department. Performs outpatient and inpatient registration, insurance verification, and collects patient financial liability payments. Ensures compliance with Medicare medical necessity, payer pre-certifications, and referrals. Provides general information to hospital users, patients, families, and physician offices.
This position may be filled as a Patient Access level I or level II based on prior work experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities
- Research, collect, and analyze information; identify opportunities, develop solutions, and lead through resolution.
- Collaborate on performance improvement activities to enhance program efficiency and patient experience.
- Responsible for distribution of analytical reports.
- Utilize multiple system applications to perform analysis, create reports, and develop educational materials.
- Synthesize and analyze data, providing detailed summaries with graphical presentations to illustrate trends and recommend practical solutions.
- Leverage program and operational data to define and demonstrate progress, ROI, and impacts.
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and other policies to ensure adherence.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification required within one (1) year of hire.
Additional Requirements for Patient Access Rep II
- Minimum of two (2) years of hospital registration or insurance verification experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding, and procedural coding.
- Ability to explain insurance benefits.
- Performs all aspects of the Patient Access Rep I role and is cross-trained in Pre-Service, Emergency Department, and/or Bed Desk.
Work Conditions
- Exposure: Unpleasant conditions (sight, touch, sound, smell), fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, biohazards, mechanical/electrical hazards, radiation, sharp objects, infectious waste, diseases, and noise.
- Occasional: Interruptions, shifting priorities, stressful situations, lifting up to 30 pounds unassisted, transporting/moving/positioning patients.
- Frequent: Following tasks through completion, multitasking, maintaining a safe working environment, using PPE, standing/walking, bending/stooping/reaching/pushing/pulling.
- Continuous: Reading small print, hearing sounds/voice patterns, verbal communication (in-person/phone/computer), sitting with ability to adjust position, using upper and lower extremities.
