Reporter

The Vail Daily, located in the heart of Colorado’s High Country, is seeking a versatile reporter to cover daily news and longer‑term investigative projects. The role focuses on local government, housing, business, nonprofits, and education, requiring strong reporting skills, quick‑turn analysis, and the ability to drive digital engagement. The newsroom has earned General Excellence awards (2022, 2024) and an Editorial Excellence award (2024).

Responsibilities

• Generate 6‑7 stories per week, including photos and video.
• Create and share content on social media; use social tools to source stories and drive traffic.
• Collaborate with community leaders, figures, and newsroom staff.
• Adapt to a fast‑paced, changing environment while meeting deadlines.
• Ensure accuracy, fairness, and correct spelling in all reporting.
• Follow the editor’s direction and vision.
• Fill in for reporting vacancies as needed.
• Maintain ethical standards as set by the editor.
• Support the team and assist where needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field.
• One year of reporting experience in a daily newsroom (1‑2 years preferred).
• Availability to work some nights and weekends.
• Experience with content management systems.
• Digital photography skills.
• Knowledge of AP style.
• Spanish language skills strongly desired.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Current driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Pay

$23‑$24.75 per hour, depending on experience.
