The Information · New York, NY · Today
Marketing$125k–$200k/yrFull-time

About the role

The Information is seeking a reporter who will break consequential news about AI data center projects and the changing economics behind them. This role involves getting inside leading data center developers, AI cloud providers, and their biggest customers (top AI firms) to uncover hardware bets—particularly alternatives to Nvidia chips—and shifts in the supply and demand for cloud GPU servers. The reporter will also investigate challenges such as delays, cost overruns, and physical limitations (power, labor, regulatory, hardware snags) in data center projects, often before these issues become widely known. These insights will provide early visibility into financing and planning developments for these facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Break news about the people, deals, and economics of AI data centers.
  • Write an AI infrastructure column with original reporting or analysis twice a month, derived from your ongoing reporting.
  • Cultivate source networks among data center developers, large AI developers, utility providers, and infrastructure investors.
  • Partner with reporters across our big tech, finance, and venture teams to connect infrastructure issues to broader shifts in capital markets.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of business, finance, or technology reporting experience, including experience with AI infrastructure reporting.
  • A track record of scoop-driven journalism and source-building on a competitive beat.
  • Ability to work out of The Information’s San Francisco or New York office.

Benefits

  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their dependents, including fertility care and $0 copays for in-office mental health visits with in-network providers.
  • Paid parental leave to support and empower new parents.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) that increases with tenure.
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for healthcare and dependent care expenses.
  • Fitness and wellness stipend to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
  • Monthly cell phone reimbursement.
  • Company-sponsored lunches in the office every Monday.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • A supportive, inclusive, and diverse work environment with a zero-tolerance policy for harassment.

Pay

Salary range: $125,000 to $200,000+ USD annually, plus bonus and benefits.

Schedule

This is a hybrid role with office attendance required 3 days per week. Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the United States.
