This position is with the Department of Accounting & General Services in Kona, Hawaii Island. The hiring rate will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors. This continuous recruitment may close at any time.

About the Role

Receive and coordinate requests for the repair and maintenance of schools and other public buildings; conduct informal bid purchasing for supplies, materials, and services required in repairs and maintenance; maintain pertinent operating and fiscal data; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay

$4,742 to $6,003 per month (SR-18, Step C to I).

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: Graduation from high school. Excess experience or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • General Experience: Two years of general work experience which required the keeping of written records. This experience may have been acquired in any field where record keeping was a major or vital portion of the job.
  • Specialized Experience: Three years of progressively responsible work experience in one or a combination of the following areas:
    • Scheduling: Building construction or maintenance work, including duties such as receiving requests, recommending or determining priorities, scheduling jobs, estimating time, manpower, and materials, following up on job status, preparing status reports, and related tasks.
    • Purchasing: Building construction or maintenance materials or services, including duties such as studying market conditions and prices, selecting suppliers, preparing purchase orders or bid proposals, analyzing cost proposals, and related tasks.
    • Selling: Building construction or maintenance materials or services, including duties such as preparing bids, calling on customers, displaying and demonstrating merchandise, estimating or quoting prices, preparing sales contracts, and related tasks.
    • Estimating: Labor and material costs of construction or maintenance, including duties such as examining specifications, compiling itemized materials and price lists, computing cost estimates, and related tasks.
  • Supervisory Aptitude: Must demonstrate aptitude or potential for supervisory duties through successful completion of assignments involving some supervisory responsibilities, details to supervisory positions, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
  • Driver's License: Some positions may require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
