General Description Of Duties

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, operates, or tests machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Maintains a maintenance logbook. Records the type and cost of maintenance or repair work. The log book will be updated on a daily basis as maintenance/repairs occur.
  • Cleans or lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles equipment.
  • Performs weekly preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Inspects drives, motors, and belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, or performs other maintenance actions, following checklists.
  • Maintains inventory on blades, belts, tires, weed eater string, fluids, filters, but not limited to, in order to minimize downtime and improve efficiency during repairs.
  • Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Assembles, installs, or repairs wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  • Determines how to correct mechanical problems, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Dismantles devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Plans and lays out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.
  • Orders parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtains them from storerooms.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
  • Operates cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Aligns and balances new equipment after installation.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, or tools.
  • Maintains and repairs specialized equipment and machinery used in supporting and maintaining sports facilities.
  • Fabricates or repairs counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings.
  • Estimates repair costs.
  • Lays brick to repair or maintain buildings, walls, arches, or other structures.
  • Grinds and reseats valves, using valve-grinding machines.
  • Installs equipment to improve the energy or operational efficiency of buildings.
  • Provides grounds keeping services, such as landscaping when needed.
  • Provides event field services such as marking and painting sporting fields when needed.
  • Performs general cleaning of buildings or properties.
  • Repairs and maintains in good working order all components relating to the complex irrigation system.
  • Maintains the functionality of the scoreboards and video boards/signage on the property.
  • Maintains a clean workspace, such as the maintenance shop and office, daily.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of responsible experience performing duties consistent with the Essential Job Functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to understand, follow, and direct written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to read and understand service and maintenance manuals.
  • Considerable knowledge of the assembly, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of general and special automotive gasoline and diesel driven equipment, e.g., automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mechanical equipment, and field maintenance equipment.
  • Skill in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing routine to moderately complex mechanical problems of automotive motors and equipment.
  • Skill in operating various automotive repair tools and diagnostic equipment, e.g., welding equipment, wheel balancing equipment, drill press, grinder, hydraulic press, battery charger, pressure cleaner.
  • Ability to operate various automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mechanical equipment, and other gasoline and diesel driven motors, e.g., service trucks, forklifts, backhoe, field maintenance equipment, golf carts.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate certification for operating various automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mechanical equipment, and other gasoline and diesel driven motors, e.g., service trucks, forklifts, backhoe, fire trucks, dump trucks, field maintenance equipment, golf carts.
  • Basic knowledge to operate a computer and scanner to send PDF receipts to the FDD Finance Department within 48 hours of the purchase.

Physical Demand Requirements

  • Physical Demand Class: Heavy
  • 100 pounds maximum lifting. Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
  • Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others.

Environmental Factors

  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, noise, and dust.
