About the role
This position promotes meal assistance for all patients on a daily basis, including meal selection, service, and retrieval. The Patient Services Host/Hostess accurately serves food and beverages to patients in accordance with diet prescriptions and verbally communicates patient concerns with the clinical dietitian. Based in Kotzebue, Alaska at the Maniilaq Health Center, this role follows a rotational work schedule of 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off. Point of hire origin is Anchorage, AK, with travel accommodations provided from NANA Region villages to Kotzebue.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with and assists patients with making appropriate daily menu selections.
- Prepares, assembles, and delivers patient meal trays and snacks.
- Calculates and assembles trays for modified diets, fluid restrictions, calories, etc., including:
- Regular
- Soft/Low Residue/Bland
- Renal
- Low Sodium
- Cardiac
- Low Fat
- Pureed
- Lactose Restricted
- Diabetic
- Combination Diets
- Checks cafeteria and nursing unit areas periodically to ensure stock levels and functionality.
- Performs assorted kitchen duties, including sanitation, set-up, and completing temperature logs.
- Utilizes an automated tablet to record and transfer meal selections to a computer.
- Performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification (contingent upon 90 days of hire).
- Must pass a fingerprinting background investigation complying with The Crime Control Act, Child Care Worker Act, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
- Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of directly related restaurant or healthcare food preparation experience.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Environment: Hospital food service with moderate noise levels.
- Customer Interaction: High.
- Physical demands: Frequently required to walk, stand, lift, pull, and push; must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Schedule: Rotational work schedule of 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off.
