This position is part of the Southern Power Remote Operations Center (ROC), a 24x7 operation providing remote monitoring and operational support to the SPC renewable fleet of wind, solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) generating assets across the U.S. The role is based in Birmingham, AL.
Responsibilities
- Control and operate sites as dictated by dispatch orders and procedures.
- Manage remote resets of equipment and curtailment directives.
- Interact with Transmission Providers and Customers.
- Log all site events, alarms, resets, and dispatches; complete shift reports.
- Troubleshoot in conjunction with site personnel.
- Coordinate activities with site personnel, system operations, and asset management.
- Manage facility forecasts and provide plant performance & output reporting.
- Manage NERC reporting in conjunction with site personnel and maintain QSE qualifications.
- Establish ongoing relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of plant and corporate employees and management.
- Take an active role in the development of new employees.
- Perform 24/7 real-time QSE operations.
- Travel up to 10% of the time.
Requirements
- Basic understanding of electrical theory.
- Ability to use multiple data sources such as SCADA, plant controls, and data historians to troubleshoot problems with sites and site equipment.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and other applications.
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
- Awareness of and compliance with NERC/CIP requirements applicable to facility and ROC operations.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to plan and discern problems requiring immediate attention versus those allowing more time to resolve.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Qualifications
- 2-year AS Technical Degree preferred.
- Military experience in a technical field desired.
- Knowledge and experience in wind and/or solar power plant operations preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in plant performance and/or engineering desired.
- Experience with plant control systems such as Allen Bradley PLC and/or SCADA systems desired.
- Hands-on experience with plant data historian (AspenTech or PI), including building trends and analyzing data, preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with different power generation technologies including solar, wind, and battery storage preferred.
- Experience with data management techniques to access, integrate, and present data from multiple sources (Excel, Access, etc.) desired.
