Remote Laborer/Maintenance Helper - Temporary/On Call - Manh Choh

About the Role

This is a temporary on-call position for a Remote Laborer who performs manual labor tasks not typically handled by other trades or crafts. The role supports maintenance, improvement, or construction of various facilities and areas in a remote camp setting near Tok, AK. Local hire only (within one hour of Tok).

Responsibilities

• Performs preventative or ongoing maintenance for physical structures, commercial, or industrial facilities.
• Cleans work areas, tools, and equipment.
• Assists in repair, maintenance, or installation of electrical or mechanical equipment.
• Supplies craft personnel with materials, tools, and supplies.
• Disassembles, transports, assembles, or installs equipment or furnishings, including ergonomic desks.
• Assists in clearing clogged drains and replacing plumbing fixtures.
• Removes snow, landscape materials, or other debris.
• Paints areas or equipment to prevent corrosion.
• Performs minor repairs or replacements of interior walls, ceilings, and trim.
• Moves or delivers materials and items to various locations.
• Transports trash and waste to disposal areas.
• Transports small equipment or tools between areas.
• Attends daily safety toolbox meetings and conducts job safety evaluations for each task.
• Notifies supervisor if safety or sanitation standards are not met.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support department or unit success.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must pass pre-employment requirements, including drug test, physical and fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test.
• Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team with employees, customers, and clients.
• Capable of making decisions with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to stand for 12-hour shifts as scheduled.
• Must be able to live in dormitory-style settings and meet remote camp cleanliness requirements.
• Must speak, understand, read, and write English.
• Must adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set by the company and client.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This role operates in a remote camp setting with frequent exposure to arctic conditions. The environment is indoor/outdoor with moderate to loud noise levels.

• Constantly required to stand, sit, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or toxic/caustic chemicals.
• Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle or waist.
• Ability to lift 30 lbs. from floor to shoulders.
• Ability to carry 40 lbs. with two hands for a minimum of 30 feet.
• Ability to perform self-paced, continuous stooping, twisting, and toe touches.
• Functionally squat 10 times, self-paced but continuous.
• Climb up and down 12 steps (240 total steps) and 12 steps while carrying 20 lbs. in one hand (24 total steps).
• Climb a slanted ladder with 7 rungs (14 total rungs), self-paced but continuous.
• Perform a shovel test for three minutes continuously using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached.

Notes for Candidates Outside Anchorage and Fairbanks

For pre-employment testing, Anchorage or Fairbanks will be considered the point of hire (except for drug testing, conducted near the candidate’s residence). Candidates are responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre-employment tasks, including safety training, physicals, DOT medical cards, fit-for-duty assessments, audiograms, and other required testing or training. Employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to Anchorage or Fairbanks for scheduled trips to remote locations.
