Remote Housekeeper Part-time/On-Call - Multiple Vacancies - Manh Choh

About the Role

This remote, part-time/on-call housekeeper position provides a wide variety of cleaning services and related duties to maintain remote camp and industrial facilities, food service areas, office facilities, and similar areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, sweeps, vacuums, mops, or restocks hallways, stairways, offices, food preparation or break areas, kitchen areas or equipment, laundry rooms, clinics, living areas, work areas, off-site areas, common areas, restrooms, public areas, or other similar areas.
• Performs floor care tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, extracting, waxing, buffing, and vacuuming all types of floors.
• Dusts both low and high areas and wipes down or cleans various surfaces using appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions.
• Removes and properly disposes of discarded materials; may compact trash and transport it to disposal areas.
• May change light bulbs and perform very light facility maintenance.
• May keep building entryways free of snow and debris.
• May operate a vehicle to work at remote locations.
• May perform special duties such as laundry or periodically scheduled cleaning tasks.
• May be designated as a night or day janitor with varying duties or assignments.
• Notifies supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
• Performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• At least one (1) year of experience in commercial cleaning equipment and industrial cleaning processes.
• At least one (1) year of experience in commercial housekeeping.
• Must pass pre-employment contract requirements, which may include drug test, physical and fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test.
• Must cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers, and clients.
• Must be able to make decisions with little to no supervision.
• Must be able to stand for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
• Must be able to live in dormitory-style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.
• Must speak, understand, read, and write English as required by the contract.
• Must adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Environment: Remote camp setting with frequent exposure to arctic conditions. Moderate to loud noise levels. May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or toxic/caustic chemicals.

Travel: Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.

• Constantly stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Ability to lift 35 lbs. from floor to knuckle or waist.
• Ability to lift 8 lbs. from floor to shoulders or crown level.
• Ability to carry 25 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• Ability to perform functional movements such as stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and climbing steps or ladders repeatedly.
• Ability to climb up and down 10 steps (50 total steps) with or without carrying 25 lbs. in one hand while using the other hand for safety.
• Ability to climb a slanted ladder with 2 rungs (4 total rungs) repeatedly.

Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage and Fairbanks Area

For candidates residing in the Lower 48, Anchorage or Fairbanks will be considered the point of hire for pre-employment testing (except drug testing, which will be conducted near the candidate’s place of residence). Employees are responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre-employment tasks, including safety training, physicals, DOT medical cards, fit-for-duty assessments, audiograms, and other required testing or training.

All employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to the point of hire (Anchorage or Fairbanks) for scheduled trips to remote locations paid for by the company.
