Pay rates listed reflect the full rate for this position, including both the base pay and health and welfare benefits in accordance with applicable requirements.
Duties and Requirements
- Cook up religious services, worship schedules, faith-based programming, and spiritual support activities for residents in accordance with approved facility procedures and operational requirements.
- Facilitate resident access to approved religious accommodations, religious materials, dietary requests, and spiritual support resources while ensuring compliance with facility policies and government detention standards.
- Cook up visits and scheduling activities for chaplains, clergy members, volunteers, faith-based organizations, and outside religious representatives entering the detention facility.
- Maintain accurate records related to religious service participation, volunteer activities, scheduling requests, religious accommodations, and operational documentation.
- Monitor religious programming activities and ensure services are conducted safely, respectfully, and in compliance with security procedures and operational guidelines.
- Cook up with detention personnel, food service staff, healthcare personnel, and facility leadership regarding religious accommodations, dietary considerations, and resident wellness concerns.
- Inspect religious service areas, program spaces, and approved religious materials for safety, organization, and compliance with facility operational standards.
- Respond to resident concerns, scheduling conflicts, accommodation requests, or operational issues related to religious services while coordinating appropriate resolutions.
- Cook up with volunteers, visitors, and outside religious representatives to comply with detention facility security procedures, operational policies, and professional conduct standards.
- Support audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and operational assessments related to resident religious accommodation services and faith-based programming activities.
- Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and effective communication while supporting safe and respectful religious service operations within the detention facility.
- Promote a professional and inclusive environment that respects resident religious practices while maintaining operational safety and facility security requirements.
Qualifications
- Must possess official ordination credentials or documented recognition as a spiritual leader within your faith tradition, alongside an active Ecclesiastical Endorsement from an ecclesiastically recognized national endorsing body.
- Must possess a minimum three (3) years of experience providing religious services in a correctional, detention, military, or institutional setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse faith traditions and populations.
- Experience supervising volunteers or staff preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of world religions, faith practices, dietary laws, and religious calendars.
- Ability to provide or coordinate services for Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, and other faith traditions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity.
- Ability to maintain neutrality and provide equitable support across all faith groups.
- Understanding of security requirements in a detention environment.
- Proficiency in written documentation and record-keeping.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals in crisis.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
- If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
- Must consent to fingerprinting.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
- Able to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
- Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
- Able to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
- Able to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
