Responsibilities

  • Administers medications as prescribed, monitors for adverse effects; disposes of all discontinued medication in compliance with regulations; monitors the filling of prescriptions and change of shift drug count.
  • Ensures the well-being of clients and provides a positive, supportive environment for clients.
  • Affirms the assessment, screening, and triage of clients and maintains medical records.
  • Collaborates with psychiatrists to ensure the medical needs of clients are met and collaborates with physical health providers to coordinate care and meet the physical needs of clients.
  • Trains all staff in medication distribution and ensures they pass the medication distribution exam before distributing medication with clients.
  • Educates clients and staff about medication usage, effects, and adverse effects.
  • Affirms the assessment of the medical status of new clients, referring for outside medical care when necessary.
  • Participates in ongoing assessments and implements physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Participates in the orientation of clients to the program and facility.
  • Collaborates with the treatment team in treatment planning, treatment plan review, and implementation.
  • Documents medical information in client records to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participates in training and testing required by the corporation, including HELP (verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint of aggressive adults), First Aid/CPR, Blood borne Pathogens, and Fire Safety.
  • Communicates medical information to facilitate authorization and/or re-authorization with the appropriate case manager.
  • Teaches clients about health consequences.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally and performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Talents, skills, and abilities: Thorough knowledge of the nursing process as it applies to the provision of medical services to adult individuals. Accurate and effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in performing CPR and administering First Aid. Ability to assess, strengths and limitations, help establish realistic goals and measurable objectives, plan and implement, appropriate interventions, and evaluate the outcome of services provided.
  • LPN: Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree and be currently licensed as an LPN in the State of Montana. Should have a minimum of three years of nursing experience, preferably in a hospital or residential setting.
  • RN: Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a Registered Nursing Degree and be currently licensed as a RN in the State of Montana. Should have a minimum of three years of nursing experience, preferably in a hospital or residential setting.
