About the Role
This position is a relief occupational therapist role within the Department of Veterans Services, located at the Davis & McDaniel Veterans Care Center.
Responsibilities
- Establishes skilled occupational therapy (OT) treatment plans for residents.
- Conducts skilled OT services for residents, including but not limited to: physical agent modalities, therapeutic exercise, therapeutic activities, ADL training, positioning, and the use of orthopedic and adaptive equipment.
- Delegates resident treatment to therapy assistants and supervises and collaborates with them throughout the treatment duration.
- Completes all required documentation in accordance with departmental, agency, and state policies, including documentation related to Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement.
- Ensures assessments are completed within established timeframes and cost information is forwarded to appropriate sources in a timely manner.
- Provides training for OT-related services implemented by non-OT staff as assigned or necessary.
- Delivers in-service training to departmental staff on topics relevant to departmental goals.
- Attends and completes all mandatory training as scheduled.
- Reviews medical records to collect relevant assessment data and gathers additional information through interviews with clients, staff, and family.
- Completes initial evaluations and subsequent re-certifications as needed.
- Attends department and other meetings; may conduct department meetings as assigned.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations; initiates and recommends corrective action for violations.
- Maintains clean and safe environments, ensuring orderly work areas and adherence to fall prevention devices/care plans.
- Recommends the purchase of new equipment and maintains OT, personal office space, and equipment in a safe and clean manner.
- Serves on committees as designated by the supervisor and completes special projects as instructed.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation.
Requirements
- Knowledge of occupational therapy and developmental disabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to interact professionally with clients, staff, families, and community personnel.
- Proficiency in using computer application software.
- Ability to lead and coordinate the work of the rehabilitation department and cross-functional departments as needed.
Qualifications
The selected candidate must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, and two TB skin tests. Excluding current DVS employees, sponsorship is not provided; applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national, Lawful Permanent Resident, or an alien authorized to work.
Pay
Hiring range: $40.00 - $56.00 per hour.
