Reliability Test Engineer, Energy
What To Expect
Focusing on electrical and mechanical testing, you will play a key role in reliability improvement for Tesla Energy's products. This position involves optimizing product design for a best-in-class lifetime customer experience through various stages of the product lifecycle.
What You'll Do
Perform reliability testing for charging and residential energy products.
Determine component/system level test solutions that optimize product reliability and durability, conducting PFMEA-based risk mitigations, test team resources, and program schedules.
Execute independently on Tesla Energy product, subsystems (such as switching converters, enclosures, busbars/conductors, and actuators).
Conduct test data analysis and clearly communicate test results, collaborating with design and reliability engineers to resolve issues detected in testing.
Procure and develop required test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems to enhance creative component and product level reliability testing.
Facilitate test failure root cause analysis to understand the root cause and drive resolution for failures originating in testing.
Continuously drive product risk burndown to ensure product design is reliable and durable during reliability tests.
Train technicians/interns to operate and troubleshoot test systems to optimize the workload.
Comply with safety policies and regulations.
What You'll Bring
Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in power electronics hardware design, design validation, hardware testing, mechanical system reliability, and durability testing.
Skills: Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis/post-processing (Python preferred); experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems; experience working safely with high voltage equipment (up to 1kV); experience pro-actively owning and delivering test engineering projects within accelerated validation timelines; excellent written and verbal communication as well as organization and documentation skills.

Pay
Associate Test Engineer: $82,440 - $123,660/annual salary
Test Engineer: $98,640 - $147,960/annual salary
Sr Test Engineer: $117,360 - $176,040/annual salary
