Reliability Support Engineer
About the role
SGS is the global leader and innovator in inspection, verification, testing and certification services. Founded in 1878, SGS is recognized as the global benchmark in quality and integrity. With over 97,000 employees in 130 countries and operating a network of more than 2,400 offices and laboratories, we provide services to almost every industry by assuring quality and safety of products and services.
The Reliability Support Engineer position is responsible for supporting hardware and software engineering teams in building reliable, automated products. This role will oversee engineering lab operations, maintenance, and improvements while supporting electro-mechanical testing, test automation, robotics, and data acquisition.
Responsibilities
- Set up, configure, and execute engineering test procedures, sensor instrumentation, and automated data collection pipelines according to technical documentation.
- Develop, maintain, and execute automation routines and DAQ test sequences using LabVIEW and scripting languages (e.g., Python, C++).
- Integrate, program, and maintain robotic fixtures, actuators, and automated test stations to support repeatable life-cycle and stress testing.
- Manage hardware and software computer setups, driver installations, firmware flashing, and network configurations for lab instruments.
- Ensure lab spaces and test cells are organized, calibrated, safe, and maintained for maximum operational efficiency.
- Actively participate in internal testing across all phases of product development.
- Prepare clear, structured reports, dashboards, and visualizations summarizing test results, automated telemetry, and anomaly detections.
- Author and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and automation user manuals.
Requirements
- Demonstrated hands-on experience developing or operating LabVIEW applications for instrument control, sensor interfacing, and automated data acquisition.
- Experience integrating, troubleshooting, or programming robotics and automation systems (e.g., robotic arms, linear actuators, PLCs, motor drivers, automated pick-and-place fixtures).
- Hands-on background executing reliability, environmental, mechanical, and stress tests (thermal chambers, vibration tables, tensile/Instron testing).
- Strong analytical mindset capable of deep-diving into unexpected test anomalies, system crashes, or sensor drift rather than purely executing repetitive routines.
- Proficiency in analyzing and summarizing large datasets using Python, MATLAB, spreadsheets, and presentation decks.
- Solid understanding of electrical/electronic instrumentation: oscilloscopes, DMMs, strain gauges, accelerometers, power supplies, and thermocouples.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical CAD drawings, electrical schematics, and software architecture flowcharts.
- Responsible management of lab safety, equipment interlocks, fixture mounting, and ESD safe handling.
- Bachelor of Science in related engineering major (ME, EE, CE, etc.).
