About the role

The Reliability Manager leads, develops, and executes the maintenance and reliability strategy for the facility to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This role oversees preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring optimal equipment uptime and performance while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in reliability practices, asset management, and maintenance planning. The manager ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead plant maintenance and utilities activities, including planning, coordination, and execution to ensure safety, high equipment availability, and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Plan and execute plant turnarounds and scheduled shutdowns, coordinating resources, timelines, and contractors for efficient and safe execution with minimal disruption.
  • Maintain accurate equipment history and maintenance records in SAP, monitoring work orders, backlog, and KPIs to improve planning and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 certifications by adhering to processes, procedures, and instructions for all activities.
  • Oversee food safety responsibilities, ensuring maintenance employees follow GMPs and communicate with operations on the safe production of Propylene Glycol USP.
  • Develop and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) strategies to enhance performance and longevity of critical chemical processing equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, reactors, instrumentation).
  • Manage the natural gas transmission pipeline operation.
  • Ensure all maintenance practices align with OSHA, EPA, PSM (Process Safety Management), and other applicable industry regulations, maintaining proper documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Supervise a diverse team of maintenance, utilities, and reliability employees, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and training to build a high-performing team aligned with plant safety and company goals.
  • Lead structured root cause investigations (RCA) on equipment failures, safety incidents, and process interruptions, implementing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate recurrence.
  • Develop and manage the maintenance and reliability budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising safety or equipment performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, engineering, HSE, and capital projects teams to align maintenance activities with operational needs and long-term plant objectives.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage contractors and external service providers to ensure quality, safety, and value, while ensuring compliance with plant entry and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 15 years’ experience in maintenance and/or operations in the oil and gas, refining, or chemical industries.
  • Leadership and effective people management skills; experience managing an hourly union workforce preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to master mechanical equipment, manufacturing, and chemical process equipment, including product and process knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and optimize processes.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and how to apply methods to existing equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of corrosion damage mechanisms and basic knowledge of materials.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, leading Root Cause Failure Analysis, and driving corrective/preventive actions.
  • Ability to work in an on-call capacity for plant emergencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects from inception to implementation.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); SAP experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with ASME codes.
  • Creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with production and other functional areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to act decisively and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing safety programs.
  • Strong communication skills.
