Relay & Power Systems Technician
About the role
This position is primarily responsible for the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical protection relays, controls, and switchgear for Medium Voltage electrical generation, distribution, and substation equipment.
Responsibilities
- Installation and testing of new electrical protection relays and controls
- Troubleshooting and repair for existing electrical protection and control systems
- Testing, troubleshooting, and repair for LV and MV breakers, switchgear, and CT/PT circuits
- Assisting the engineering and operations teams with new equipment commissioning
- Assisting the engineering team with the creation of as-built protection/control schematics
- Supporting existing power generation fleets, compression stations, and other operational sites
- Documenting equipment test procedures and results
- Providing technical support to the remote operations center as needed
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in the power generation/distribution industry
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a relay technician
- Extensive knowledge of electrical breakers, switchgear, CT/PT circuits, and power transformers
- Prioritize experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories' (SEL) Relay product line
- Significant experience with Medium Voltage switchgear and distribution systems
- Field experience of troubleshooting electrical protection relay logic, control wiring etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
Qualifications
- College degree and/or coursework in an engineering or technical field
- Experience with generator controllers (CAT EMCP, DEIF, Deep Sea, DI.ANE, etc.)
- Experience with industrial PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell, etc.)
- NETA certifications
- Experience with P&C (Protection and Control)
- Experience with SEL RTACs and/or SEL PowerMax
- Experience with Power Management Systems
- Familiarity with NETA commissioning and maintenance testing standards
