About the Role

The Relationship Banker is responsible for building client relationships, identifying financial needs, recommending banking solutions, and supporting branch growth through proactive service and sales activities. This role serves as a key client-facing banker in the branch and is expected to deliver a high-quality client experience while contributing to individual and branch sales goals.

The Relationship Banker works with new and existing clients to open accounts, deepen relationships, generate referrals, support digital banking adoption, and connect clients with appropriate banking products and internal business partners. This position requires strong customer service, consultative sales skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify opportunities during everyday client interactions.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience as a Personal Banker, Universal Banker, Relationship Banker, Branch Banker, Financial Services Representative, Consumer Banker, Credit Union Member Services Representative, or similar retail banking or financial services role. Successful candidates will have experience in customer service, relationship building, needs-based selling, cross-selling banking products, referral generation, and supporting sales goals in a retail banking, credit union, financial services, or customer-focused sales environment.

Responsibilities

  • Client Relationship Building and Sales Support
    • Build and maintain client relationships by providing professional, responsive, and needs-based service.
    • Conduct financial needs conversations to identify client goals and recommend appropriate banking solutions.
    • Support new client acquisition and relationship growth through proactive outreach, lead follow-up, appointment setting, and customer engagement.
    • Deepen existing client relationships by identifying opportunities to expand product usage and improve client satisfaction.
    • Contribute to individual and branch sales goals through consistent execution of sales and service activities.
    • Identify and refer opportunities to internal partners, including mortgage, consumer lending, business banking, investments, and insurance.
    • Participate in branch sales campaigns, calling initiatives, and client outreach activities.
  • Banking Product Sales and Financial Solutions
    • Recommend and sell consumer banking products and services based on client needs, including checking accounts, savings accounts, money market accounts, certificates of deposit, debit cards, credit cards, consumer loans, home equity products, and digital banking services.
    • Identify opportunities for mortgage, investment, insurance, and other internal partner referrals.
    • Use consultative sales techniques to match clients with appropriate financial solutions.
    • Cross-sell banking products and services during client interactions.
    • Educate clients on digital banking tools, online banking, mobile banking, and self-service options.
    • Maintain working knowledge of retail banking products, services, promotions, and basic lending solutions.
  • Client Experience and Service
    • Deliver a positive client experience during each interaction.
    • Respond to client questions, account needs, and service requests in a timely and professional manner.
    • Resolve routine client concerns and escalate more complex matters as appropriate.
    • Provide guidance on account options, digital tools, and banking services that support client convenience and financial needs.
    • Follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction and identify additional opportunities to assist.
  • Branch Operations and Risk Management
    • Follow all bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and risk management expectations.
    • Open and maintain accounts in accordance with bank standards and applicable requirements.
    • Process transactions accurately as needed and support daily branch operations.
    • Maintain accurate documentation for account openings, referrals, client interactions, and service requests.
    • Protect client information and support branch compliance with applicable banking regulations.
    • Work collaboratively with branch team members to support overall branch performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 to 12 months of customer service, sales, retail banking, financial services, or related customer-facing experience.
  • Ability to build relationships, identify client needs, and recommend appropriate products or services.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including professional verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to support sales goals through consultative conversations, cross-selling, lead follow-up, or referral generation.
  • Ability to work accurately with client information, account documentation, and banking systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include Saturdays.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NMLS registration after hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Personal Banker, Universal Banker, Relationship Banker, Branch Banker, Financial Services Representative, Consumer Banker, or similar retail banking role.
  • Previous cash-handling experience.
  • Experience with deposit accounts, consumer banking products, digital banking services, or referral-based sales.
  • Working knowledge of retail banking products, lending products, and digital banking solutions.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Pay

The current pay range for this role is $16.50 - $21.00 per hour. The range takes into account factors such as prior experience, skill set, training, and other internal business and organizational factors. The specific range may vary depending on the geographic location of the position.
