About the role

At Farmers Mutual Hail (FMH), our mission is simple: protect the livelihoods and legacies of America’s farmers through the complete farm insurance solutions we offer. As America’s Crop Insurance Company™, we’re headquartered in the U.S. and have been owned by the farmers we insure for over 125 years. Farmers Mutual Hail, located in West Des Moines, IA, is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program. This is an on‑site internship (not remote) for students near West Des Moines.

Responsibilities

• Rate Study – analyzes and evaluates a company and presents the analysis to the company.
• Learn and assist in the underwriting process for direct and broker accounts.
• Work with financials and annual statements.
• Communicate with clients.
• Assist with any ongoing team projects.
• Work on other projects as delegated by manager/mentor.
• Participate in internal meetings to share and develop strategy and knowledge.
• Attend a broker visit.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled as a junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university.
• Major in Risk Management, Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
• Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Analytical, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• May 2027 graduates are not eligible.

Pay

This is a paid internship.

Schedule

Internship runs from Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week.
