About the Role

Join our dynamic Reinsurance Operations team in the Life Actuarial department as a Reinsurance Analyst Senior! This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in leading reinsurance processes, from claims processing and treaty administration to financial reporting and audit support. You'll be responsible for managing reinsurance risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with business partners to drive effective decision-making. Strong critical thinking skills and excellent time management are essential as you navigate complex issues, interpret treaties, and deliver timely, accurate results.

This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. This role requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Administer complex reinsurance, validate data, files, systems, and identify discrepancies and related audit support.
  • Resolve complex issues and navigate obstacles to deliver work product.
  • Prepare complex reinsurance financial, management, and regulatory reports.
  • May draft reinsurance treaties, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Letter of Agreement (LOAs), with the ability to negotiate terms under direct supervision.
  • Administer complex retention to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company limits, and reinsurance treaty requirements.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of key regulations impacting the reinsurance process.
  • Collaborate and maintain strong relationships with business partners and may perform in an advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies.
  • Develop and maintain processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Facilitate and review internal controls to ensure an effective and efficient reinsurance system and financial system.
  • Perform reinsurance transactions, analysis, reconciliations, and research with knowledge of GAAP/STAT accounting and other regulatory requirements.
  • Understand key regulatory implications that impact Reinsurance and resolve escalated accounting issues of a unique nature.
  • Lead and serve as a subject matter expert on special projects/audits related to reinsurance administration systems, legal contracts/treaties, new product launches, and other initiatives.
  • Ensure reinsurer and compliance audit requests are completed and oversee coordination of responses to internal and external audit, and reinsurance business partners.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to team members on all reinsurance-related processes.
  • Review the work of less experienced team members and provide guidance and feedback when issues arise.
  • Proactively assist team lead and management with delegation of work, including support on escalated issues, project work, and any reinsurance trends or issues.
  • Approach workload with an innovative perspective and make recommendations to enhance efficiencies and assist in the identification of process improvement initiatives that further departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 6 or more years of experience as an analyst.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience administering Life and/or Annuity reinsurance.
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting Life and/or Annuity reinsurance treaty language, with demonstrated ability to apply it accurately in practice.
  • 3+ years of experience with Life Insurance and/or Annuity products.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Excel, including practical application of advanced features like Pivot Tables, Lookup functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP), and data analysis.
  • 3+ years of experience with accounting, financial data analysis, and reconciliations.
  • 2+ years of experience using Visual Basic, TAI.Net Queries, XML, and/or SQL.
  • 1+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience working with Oracle systems.
  • U.S. military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $93,770 - $179,240. USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
