Job Summary
Metropolitan State Hospital seeks a Rehabilitation Therapist, State Facilities (Music-Safety) to provide music-based therapy and activities to assist patients in relating to the environment, self, and community. Responsibilities include organizing and providing recovery-oriented courses/groups/activities, coordinating unit parties, and maintaining a safe environment.
Job Duties
- Use music media and activities to provide a non-threatening, self-motivating experience to assist patients in relating to the immediate environment, the self, and the community.
- Provide an atmosphere compatible with behavioral change, self-expression, and nonverbal and verbal communications.
- Directly provide treatment services to patients on the home unit and in the Treatment Mall.
- Organize, plan, and provide rehabilitation services within the scope of services, techniques, and programs authorized by the Rehabilitation Therapy Service.
- Assess each assigned patient’s interest in rehabilitation therapy interventions and provide written documentation of assessment in the patient's medical record.
- Create treatment objectives based on information gathered during assessment.
- Gather information on patient progress on their objectives through various methods.
- Participate in the Treatment Plan Conference (TxPC) of each assigned patient, providing documentation of the patient's progress in the TxP prior to the TxPC.
- Attend and participate in professional development activities as scheduled.
- Attend and participate in monthly Rehabilitation Therapy Department service meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Music Therapy or related field.
- Completion of an approved clinical internship in the appropriate rehabilitation specialty in an approved hospital or rehabilitation center affiliated with the college.
- Experience with principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature of rehabilitation services, especially those relating to developmental, mental, or physical disordered offenders; the process of restoration, maintenance, and development of capabilities; mental health education, scope and activities of private and public health and welfare agencies; characteristics of mental, emotional, physical, and developmental disorders, current trends in mental health, public health, and public welfare, federal and state programs; establishing and maintaining the confidence and cooperation of persons contacted in the work; secure accurate clinical data and record such data systematically; composing clear, accurate, and concise reports; interpreting statistical data; analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action.
