Rehabilitation Services Assistant Manager / Assistant Unit Manager
About the role
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.
Responsibilities
- Aids the Unit Manager in organizing and directing the delivery of vocational rehabilitation and independent living services in a seven-county catchment area.
- Assists the Unit Manager with planning, implementing, and evaluating the technical and administrative components of a diverse rehabilitation program.
- Manages budget development, personnel administration, staff training and development, and provides consultation/technical assistance to staff.
- Works closely with the Asheville Management Team to ensure that clients continue to receive quality and timely services during caseload vacancies.
- Assigns special projects to meet the rehabilitation needs of individuals served and the Asheville VR/IL Unit.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor and successful completion of agency requirements for independent counselor status; or current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor and successful completion of the agency’s requirements for independent counselor status.

Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of federal and state policies and regulations governing the delivery of vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, and training inexperienced/experienced employees in a supportive manner.
- Knowledge of effective methods to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with agency staff, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with caseload management processes.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with performance management.

Pay
Salary Range: $57,983 - $101,470
Schedule
Hybrid-teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours.
