NYU Langone Brooklyn’s Department of Rehabilitation is seeking a full-time licensed psychologist specializing in rehabilitation/health psychology (inpatient focus) or neuropsychology (less emphasis, outpatient focus). The role is approximately 80% inpatient and 20% outpatient.

About the Setting

  • 30-bed adult inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit accredited by The Joint Commission.
  • Frequent admissions from NYU Langone’s Joint Commission–certified Comprehensive Stroke Center.
  • Additional inpatient populations include traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, and neurosurgical patients.
  • Outpatient clinic operates as a half-day in-person service with optional virtual hours, primarily for follow-up of former inpatients and neurology referrals.

Inpatient Responsibilities (80%)

  • Conduct brief neurobehavioral status exams to assess behavior, emotional state, insight/self-awareness, and coping skills, and to identify targets for psychological intervention.
  • Provide brief, evidence-based interventions supporting adjustment, coping, cooperation, and participation in the rehabilitation program.
  • Consult with team members daily; summarize and aggregate assessment data verbally and in writing to inform behavioral plans.
  • Participate in rounds, case conferences, and team meetings to discuss diagnoses and treatment/management.
  • Deliver psychoeducational services to families.

Outpatient Responsibilities

  • Cognitive rehabilitation and/or individual psychotherapy to support adjustment and coping following acquired brain injury.
  • Health and behavior interventions to address factors affecting physiological functioning, health, well-being, or disease-related problems.
  • Comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to clarify diagnosis, assist with resource identification, return-to-work planning, and long-term planning.

Training & Supervision

The psychology service maintains a well-established, integrated externship training program. Post-training supervision experience and interest in training is preferred.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program with an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship.
  • Completion of a formal postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent in rehabilitation psychology, health psychology, or clinical neuropsychology.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of New York.
  • Board-certified or eligible for ABPP board certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of post-training clinical experience.
  • Expertise in the assessment of stroke and/or traumatic brain injury.

Pay

Salary range: $110,000 – $116,000.
