About the role

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This approach aims to empower and equip Veterans to take charge of their health and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a journey level Rehabilitation Counselor providing personal adjustment counseling, therapeutic rehabilitation interventions, and case coordination services.
  • Aid Veterans with severe disabilities in achieving competitive employment, educational, and independent living goals.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and select, administer, and interpret vocational and other psychometric instruments.
  • Select and consult with interdisciplinary teams to enhance coordination of care and provide optimal interventions.

Requirements

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or clinical rehabilitation counseling from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Current, full and unrestricted certification as a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) from the CRCC.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human development, behavior, medical, psychosocial, and vocational aspects of disability.
  • Knowledge of history, philosophy, and disability rights legislation in the field of rehabilitation.
  • Ability to synthesize assessment and diagnosis information, develop effective individual service delivery plans, and manage caseloads.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools, functional capacity evaluations, and vocational preparation.
  • Knowledge of physical and psychological disabilities, appropriate accommodations, and assistive technology principles.
  • Knowledge of counseling theory, medical and psychiatric terminology, and signs and symptomology of suicidal and homicidal ideations.

Skills

  • Effective counseling skills to promote self-awareness, adjustment to disability, enhanced job retention, and successful integration to the community.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to conduct biopsychosocial assessments and select, administer, and interpret vocational and other psychometric instruments.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools and methods, functional capacity evaluations, and specific vocational preparation.
  • Ability to employ person-centered job development strategies to facilitate successful job placement.
