Job Description

The Rehabilitation Assistant provides support to the Physical Therapy Department to ensure a positive and efficient patient care experience. Responsibilities include assisting with patient care, maintaining clean and organized treatment areas, managing supplies, and supporting administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and escort them to treatment areas.
  • Provide necessary information during registration and assist patients in preparation for treatment.
  • Perform supervised therapeutic exercises with patients and assist therapists with treatments requiring two-person assistance.
  • Apply approved treatment modalities under direct supervision.
  • Clean and prepare treatment areas and patient equipment in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Ensure availability of clean linens and manage their distribution and removal.
  • Maintain and restock supplies, cleaning and maintaining equipment logs, and forms as needed.
  • Answer phones professionally, take accurate messages, and transfer calls appropriately.
  • Absorb and assist with patient scheduling, billing, and other secretarial duties as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain photocopying, scanning, faxing, and shredding tasks and ensure timely management of documents.
  • Work effectively with the rehabilitation team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to meet the hospital's standards of service and care.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Courses or work experience in health/patient care, physical therapy, or exercise training preferred.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, basic computer and typing proficiency, excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail, fine motor skills for repetitive hand movements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull heavy weights, and assist with patient transfers.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Fine motor skills for repetitive hand movements.

Working Conditions

  • Hospital and outpatient clinic environment with potential exposure to blood/body fluids and infectious diseases.
  • Must comply with infection control guidelines and maintain a safe, professional environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
