Full-time, non-exempt position at the San Antonio State Supported Living Center. Shift: Day (First). Travel up to 5%.

About the Role

Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and contribute to a mission-driven environment that values and respects individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Rehabilitation Therapy Technician (RTT) performs routine habilitative and rehabilitative therapy work, assisting the habilitation/rehabilitation supervisor in providing support for an assigned therapeutic specialty, such as supported employment job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, or vocational/day programs. This role involves implementing treatment plans, accompanying individuals to activities and appointments, and performing housekeeping duties in therapeutic activity areas. A valid driver’s license and ability to drive a state vehicle may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Attends work regularly and may be required to work extended shifts, overtime, or rotating schedules in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Prepares materials for assessments using prior assessment data and assists in conducting assessments as directed.
  • Accompanies individuals to and from activities and appointments, if required.
  • Prepares materials for therapeutic activities and maintains an adequate supply of materials.
  • Performs housekeeping duties in therapeutic activity areas as instructed.
  • Provides hands-on assistance to individuals for an assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., supported employment job coaching, vocational rehabilitation, or vocational/day programs).
  • Performs direct contact observations and completes observation notes.
  • Collects data related to treatment plans as instructed.
  • Provides feedback to the interdisciplinary team about individuals’ progress and collaborates with Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to maintain connections and assist in developing treatment plans.
  • Develops feasible treatment goals for the team to implement in the best interest of the individual.
  • Maintains current skills relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Actively participates in disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (or previous employment).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire; eligible driving record required per HHSC Fleet Management policy. Out-of-state applicants must provide a certified driving record.
  • Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities).
  • Males aged 18–25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Subject to random drug testing.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet the same physical requirements as direct contact staff positions.

Qualifications

  • Some knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of relevant therapeutic techniques.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience or ability to gain experience using equipment, tools, and materials for therapeutic activities.
  • Ability to assist in developing treatment and support plans.
  • Ability to collect data for assigned therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant software.
  • General knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of ICF-IID regulations and State Supported Living Center policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working or volunteering with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience aiding therapists in a therapeutic specialty (e.g., music therapy, therapeutic recreation, dance/movement therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, or vocational rehabilitation).

Pay

Monthly salary range: $2,769.08 – $3,547.58.
