JOB SUMMARY
The Rehabilitation Aide provides psychosocial rehabilitation services as outlined in the Administrative Rules of Montana 37.106.1413. Under the supervision of a Licensed Addiction Counselor or Mental Health Professional, the Aide supports clients after program hours and assists Medical Unit staff and counselors. Adherence to state statutes, CARF standards, and federal regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, is essential.
Essential Functions
- Provide observation and therapeutic support to assigned patients, including rounds at residential sites to ensure security and adherence to schedules.
- Report incidents, unusual events, and emergencies immediately to the Supervisor and nurse on duty.
- Intervene and de-escalate situations as necessary.
- Maintain client phone calls and document patient care or behavioral issues.
- Monitor and facilitate client visits, ensuring no contraband is brought into the facility.
- Perform client luggage searches upon admission and transport luggage to storage, conducting additional searches as needed.
- Assist with medication administration, removing, handling, and instructing patients on medication.
- Attend staff meetings and in-services to comply with mandatory training requirements.
- Follow the organization’s code of conduct and assist with food service and patient supervision in the dining room.
- Monitor and accompany clients during breaks.
- Ensure regular rounds to maintain facility security and secure doors after hours.
- Complete incident report forms according to policy.
- Transport patients to outside activities safely and report any mechanical issues.
- Participate in departmental sessions, non-violent crisis intervention training, and CEU courses.
- Guide clients in self-advocacy and problem-solving.
- Train new employees after completing RA II requirements.
Safety-Related Duties
- Drive patients to outside activities safely, adhering to driving laws and Rimrock’s policies.
- Maintain driving logs and report any mechanical problems to the Supervisor.
- Conduct regular rounds to ensure facility security and alarm systems are set after hours.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures and assist in actual events or drills.
Experience/Training
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and work with patients with addictions.
- Attend monthly departmental sessions and in-services.
- View non-violent crisis intervention tapes/videos and attend related training.
- Complete 4 CEUs annually, focusing on Trauma Informed Care, De-escalation, Motivational Interviewing, and Suicide Awareness.
- Must meet the career ladder requirements: 1 year as a Rehabilitation Technician I, no disciplinary actions within the last 12 months, complete required CEUs, and pass a Safety RA Quiz.
- Must obtain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under Rimrock’s driving policy.
- May not have more than 2 violations/accidents or suspensions/reinstatements within 3 years.
- May not have any DUI/Reckless/Felony driving convictions within 5 years.
- CPR and First Aid training certification must be obtained within 3 months.
Skills
- Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively with the therapeutic team.
- Ability to provide empathy and demonstrate knowledge and compassion towards patients with addiction.
- Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Demands
- Work indoors in an office environment with moderate noise.
- Intermittent physical effort involving lifting up to 25 pounds, walking, stooping, and standing.
- A typical workday involves approximately 70% sitting and 30% standing, walking, reaching, talking, and hearing.
- Normal vision abilities required, including close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment/Job Locations
- Involves everyday risks or discomfort requiring normal safety precautions in an office setting, meeting room, and patient care areas.
- Work may involve mental and emotional stress.
- Some driving required.
- Primarily works in the main facility but may be required to work at another facility with adult or adolescent patients.
