Regulatory Engineer
About the role
Sandvik Mining is seeking a Regulatory Engineer to support the design and development of underground mechanical cutting machines. This position requires expertise in MSHA underground coal regulation and state/local regulations for underground coal mining equipment.
Responsibilities
- Develop drawings and specifications for Sandvik mining equipment using engineering analysis and computer-assisted design.
- Support as part of a team to detail, document, and approve designs.
- Review and analyze engineering and design specifications to assess factors affecting equipment functionality, manufacturing feasibility, and safety.
- Communicate technical drawing revisions clearly with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic.
- Communicate technical information and drawings with approval groups such as MSHA and state.
- Provide support with technical training and the Sandvik service network on proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting practices.
- Provide support to end users, operators, and service personnel in cases of complex technical issues.
- Work with factory to provide technical support and guidance for USA MSHA underground coal applications.
- Failure reports and analysis for components and assemblies, both electrical and mechanical.
- Aids in compiling accurate data and engineering analysis.
- Reviews spare parts recommendations and develops accuracy of Machine Life Operating Costs (MLOC).
- Aids factories with field testing and trials of new products and updated components to ensure proper and safe operation.
- Develops test plans for field/shop testing of new products/designs.
- Plans for correct tools and parts required to perform tasks, according to all work procedures.
- Supports commissioning of products that includes pre-delivery inspections and hot (operational and at customer site) commissioning.
- Works with customers and factories to develop solutions to equipment related challenges.
- Assists customers and co-workers with parts interpretations and recommended stock holdings.
- Affords customer relationships to ensure customers have positive experiences and remain loyal to the Sandvik brand.
- Affords sales in evaluation of potential applications and machine options.
- Complies with safety policies and applicable government, customer or industry regulations or requirements.
- Identifies and reports any unsafe work habits.
- Strives to find safer ways for customers to work with Sandvik's products.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of technical experience.
- Knowledgeable aspects of underground mining.
- Engineering Degree in a mechanical, electrical discipline or equivalent experience.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a passport.
Special Requirements
- The role will require ability to go underground.
- Ability to travel is essential.
- Foreign language (German) an asset.
Education
An Engineering Degree in a mechanical, electrical discipline or equivalent experience is preferred.
Licenses & Certificates
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a passport.
- PE Certification.
Compensation
The expected salary for this role will be $107,000 to $135,000 depending on experience.
