Regulatory (Energy) Sr. Associate/Sr. Counsel/Jr. Partner
About the role
The PositionMichael Best & Friedrich LLP’s growing Regulatory team is looking to add a Senior Associate, Senior Counsel or Junior Partner to its Energy practice. The desired candidate will have 7+ years’ experience in the energy industry. The attorney can be located in any of our offices. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
Responsibilities
- Regulatory experience in energy (electricity, utilities, and renewables)
- Experience working with clients in the energy industry supporting regulatory, legislative, litigation, and transactional matters
- Regulation of utilities at both at both the state and federal levels
- Representing energy companies and large industrial users in negotiations and power purchase agreements with utilities
Requirements
- J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
- Excellent academic credentials
- Experience in litigation, regulatory, and legislative matters for the energy and/or extractive industries
- Adaptability: Ability to learn and embrace new skills and best practices as the position evolves and Firm needs change
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff; excellent oral and written communication skills

- Professionalism: Ability to maintain composure and demonstrate good judgment

Pay
The annual compensation range for this role in our California, Colorado, District of Columbia, and Illinois offices is between $225,000 and $325,000. The salary range reflects our good-faith expectation for this role at the time of posting. Final compensation will depend on experience, skills, and internal equity.
Schedule
This position is considered full-time and is therefore eligible to participate in employer-sponsored benefits, including: medical, dental, vision, as well as elective/voluntary life, disability, and accident coverage. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the firm’s 401k plan.
