Regulatory Cybersecurity Specialist

About the Role

This position is filled under a streamlined hiring authority (21 U.S. Code 379d-3a) and offers a career or career-conditional appointment with pay determined by the Title 21 Pay Table 2, Band D.

The Regulatory Cybersecurity Specialist will serve in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). CDRH promotes and protects public health by ensuring timely access to safe, effective, and high-quality medical devices and safe radiation-emitting products.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will support regulatory cybersecurity efforts, including but not limited to:

• Cybersecurity vulnerability analysis
• Operational and information technology
• Digital health policy, technology support, and training
• Medical device cybersecurity
• Artificial intelligence/machine learning in regulatory contexts
• Regulatory science advancement and review support
• Advanced manufacturing and real-world evidence studies
• Regulatory innovation and strategic partnerships

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following qualifications by 11:59 PM EST on 09/01/2026:

Basic Qualifications

• Education: A bachelor’s degree or higher in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computer science, statistics, software engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• OR Experience: Comparable work in digital health policy, digital health technology support, digital health training, medical device cybersecurity, AI/ML, regulatory science, regulatory review support, advanced manufacturing, real-world evidence, regulatory innovation, or digital health strategic partnerships.

Minimum Experience Requirements

In addition to the basic qualifications, applicants must meet one of the following:

• A bachelor’s degree and 5 years of comparable experience in cybersecurity vulnerability analysis, operational technology, information technology, information management, or a related field.
• A master’s degree and 4 years of comparable experience in the same fields.
• A Doctorate or J.D. degree and 2 years of comparable experience in the same fields.
• An MD, DO, DDS, DPM, or DVM degree and 2 years of comparable experience in the same fields.
• 7 years of comparable experience in the same fields (no degree required).

Experience may be from federal, state, local government, private sector, or non-governmental organizations. Part-time work is credited proportionally (e.g., 20 hours/week for 12 months = 6 months of experience).
