Regulatory Biologist

About the Role

GEI has an outstanding mid-level environmental opportunity to help support our growing environmental practice across the United States. The position involves working on projects throughout the United States. The position has tremendous short- and long-term growth opportunities for your career within GEI, including stock ownership. You will work collaboratively with clients and GEI's other leaders and experts in the environmental and engineering fields, primarily on water, energy, and multi-benefit projects for private and public clients, especially water supply and flood districts, and ports and harbors. As part of our multidisciplinary project teams, you will have an important role supporting tasks and projects; preparing permit applications and providing regulatory strategy; and working as part of our dynamic team to solve an array of water and environmental issues critical to the environment, water, and energy landscapes.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Develop environmental compliance documents for projects in California that reflect a broad and comprehensive understanding of applicable federal, state, and local natural resource regulations
• Preparation and processing of Federal Section 404 and 401 Clean Water Act
• Supporting Federal and State Endangered Species Act consultations, and NEPA biological resources impact analyses
• Participating in meetings and phone calls with regulatory agencies
• Actively participate in multi-disciplinary teamwork with biologists, planners, landscape architects, restoration ecologists, and engineers
• May be opportunities to support fieldwork efforts such as aquatic resources delineations, habitat assessments, vegetation mapping, or other studies that inform project permitting

Minimum Qualifications

• BA, BS, or MS in environmental science, biology, natural resources, or similar
• A minimum of 5 years of regulatory permitting experience is required with a preference for regulatory familiarity in California, Texas, and the Northeast
• Experience with state and federal environmental laws, specifically Section 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act, Federal and State Endangered Species Act
• Knowledge of environmental resources in California, Texas and the Northeast
• Familiarity with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental documents
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including providing clear direction and effective communication in meetings
• Valid state driver's license

Pay

$80,000.00 – $115,000.00/year
