Regulated Waste Solutions Specialist
About the role
You will support Northstar’s Commodity Sales Rubbish/Waste to Energy team by developing, implementing, and managing solutions for regulated waste streams including hazardous waste, e-waste, universal waste, and other compliance-driven programs. This role bridges the gap between technical waste expertise and commercial execution—ensuring solutions are compliant, scalable, and aligned with client needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Independently own the development and implementation of regulated waste and hazardous waste solutions for client locations
- Review, assist, and validate waste profiles to ensure accuracy and compliance with RCRA and other applicable regulations
- Act as an internal subject matter expert on hazardous waste, e-waste, and regulated waste solutions
- Partner with Client Services team members to scope, price, and implement compliant waste solutions
- Participate in client-facing calls (virtual and in-person) to support technical discussions and solution design
- Collaborate with disposal vendors and outlets to ensure proper handling, transportation, and disposal methods
- Identify opportunities to optimize cost, improve compliance, and expand service offerings
- Support documentation requirements including waste profiles, manifests, and compliance-related materials
- Stay current on RCRA, USDOT, and state-level regulations impacting waste handling and disposal
- Interact cross-functionally with the Audit & Regulatory team as required
- Occasional travel, up to once per quarter, is required to support client site visits and other business needs
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail, especially in reviewing technical and regulatory documentation
- Working knowledge of RCRA regulations and hazardous waste classification
- Experience with waste profiling and approval processes
- Ability to translate technical requirements into practical, client-facing solutions
- Strong communication skills for both internal teams and external clients
- Able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Preferred Experience
- 2+ years in hazardous waste, environmental services, or waste management
- Experience supporting or creating waste profiles, manifests, or shipping documentation
- Background in environmental science, chemistry, or related field (preferred)
- Familiarity with e-waste, universal waste, and specialty waste streams
