Regular Teacher (K-8 REG Physical Ed)

About the Role

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Instructional planning, including providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, establishing positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, and evaluating pupils' progress while maintaining current and accurate records of their achievements.
• Implementing instructional methods, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, using available instructional materials, participating in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques, and creating bulletin board and interest areas reflective of pupils' current work.
• Exhibiting and applying knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participating in programs to improve student attendance and promoting anti-vandalism programs in schools.
• Establishing and maintaining reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds (e.g., playgrounds, corridors, lunchrooms), consistent with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code.
• Maintaining accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encouraging student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
• Ensuring fairness in teacher-pupil relationships and exhibiting understanding and respect for students.
• Initiating appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and/or ancillary personnel, following school procedures.
• Communicating with parents or guardians and counseling pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participating in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings, using pertinent information and materials provided.
• Coordinating and attending class field trips (as needed).
• Working in extra-curricular and after-school activities (as needed).
• Utilizing appropriate resources available in the community.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Possession of at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: Subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, contemporary principles and practices of teaching, classroom and behavior management techniques.
• Abilities: Modifying instruction to meet student needs, cooperating with school faculty and administration in developing and implementing an articulated program of instruction, working effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff, and community representatives, understanding the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
• Skills: Application of contemporary teaching principles and practices, strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, sound and professional judgment.

Physical Requirements

Light Work: Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39.
