About the Role
This is a Regular Student Tutor position which will provide in-person academic tutoring to students while maintaining an effective and positive learning environment. Language tutors assist students enrolled in elementary through intermediate level courses. Job functions include tutoring and advising students on how to improve their language skills and language acquisition practices. The tutor may also be asked to assist in class sessions.
Schedule
- Up to 25 hours per week, maximum, during fall and spring semesters.
- Up to 35 hours per week, maximum, during summer semesters.
Enrollment Requirements
- Fall/Spring Semesters:
- Undergraduates: 6 credit hours (half-time).
- Graduates: 5 credit hours (half-time).
- International students: 12 credit hours (undergraduates) or 9 credit hours (graduates) for full-time enrollment.
- Summer Semester:
- Regular student positions: 3 credit hours (or enrolled in fall classes, with FICA taxes applicable).
- Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions: 6 credit hours (undergraduates) or 5 credit hours (graduates).
- Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum required for student employment, the student must provide a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating hours needed and anticipated graduation date) to Human Resources.
Requirements
- Competent speaker, writer, and learner who can communicate both in the language and about the language being taught.
- Must be able to meet with students on campus in the department’s tutoring office during scheduled times that serve the student population.
- Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must communicate and work well with others and demonstrate sensitivity to intercultural communication.
- Must handle confidential information in a professional and ethical manner.
Qualifications
Modern Languages majors and minors are preferred candidates.
