About the role
The NYC Showroom is the physical manifestation of the Babylist brand. As a Registry Specialist, you will be the go-to expert for baby gear, guiding expecting parents and their guests through the process of building the perfect registry. Your role involves being a senior presence on the floor, coaching newer staff, and managing the day-to-day operations of the showroom.
Responsibilities
- Guide parents and gift-givers through the registry process, making it a meaningful and less overwhelming experience.
- Provide thoughtful "Add to Registry" and purchase recommendations to enhance the shopping experience.
- Shape the brand's presence in person, ensuring it aligns with the online experience.
- Coach and support showroom and pop-up staff, helping them understand product features, safety guidelines, and the Babylist way of doing things.
- Owning the showroom's opening, closing, and security procedures, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
- Work weekends to manage the busiest times in the showroom.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of baby gear, able to recommend products based on various needs and preferences.
- Experience guiding parents through registry or gear decisions, preferably for two or more years.
- Two or more years of retail or guest service experience, with a focus on relationship-building.
- A warm, empathetic communication style that builds trust and makes people feel understood, not pressured.
- Comfortable taking ownership of showroom operations, including opening, closing, and security protocols.
- Flexible availability to work weekends when the showroom is busiest.

- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple customers simultaneously.
- Passionate about the mission of supporting expecting and new families.
- Ability to adapt to different situations and roles within the team.
Skills
- Product knowledge of baby gear, including brands, features, and safety guidelines.
- Customer service and guidance skills, particularly in the context of registry and baby gear selection.
- Leadership and coaching abilities, to mentor and support newer staff members.
- Organizational and time management skills, to ensure smooth operations and customer service.
