About the role
The Patient Access Services Registration Specialist is the first point of contact at Singing River Health System and must ensure a pleasant experience for both patients and visitors. The Registration Specialist interviews patients and/or the patient's representative to obtain complete and accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information required for billing and collecting patient accounts. He/She conducts screening for all insurance pre-certification requirements.
The Registration Specialist minimizes medical risk to the patient and minimizes Health System liability by correctly identifying the patient, resolving duplicate medical record numbers, identifying the patient with the appropriate identification band, providing the patient with a copy of the patient's rights and responsibilities, and the Health System privacy practices and proper recording of the patient's privacy wishes. He/She contributes to the success of the Revenue Cycle by meeting standards for accuracy and attention to detail in registrations and all assigned tasks.
Responsibilities
- Interview patients and/or representatives to obtain complete and accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information
- Conduct screening for all insurance pre-certification requirements
- Correctly identify patients and resolve duplicate medical record numbers
- Provide patients with identification bands, a copy of patient rights and responsibilities, and privacy practices
- Record patient privacy wishes accurately
- Meet standards for accuracy and attention to detail in registrations and assigned tasks
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred
- Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) preferred
- Must complete de-escalation training by the end of position orientation (90 days)
- Experience in hospital or physician office setting performing registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and/or customer service preferred

Schedule
- 4 ten-hour shifts per week
- Rotating weekends
- Shift hours: 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM
Physical Demands
- Moderately active work: involves sitting with frequent movement about the office and facility
- Travel to another facility within the SRHS service area may be required
- Exerting negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body
- Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease
- Repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment
- Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction
- Close visual acuity and ability to adjust focus between computer monitors and printed material
- Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue
- Must be able to work assigned schedules, with potential changes based on hospital needs (off days, shifts, weekends)
