Of Duties

  • Provide medical and veterinary care to animals in the Shelter.
  • Maintain and monitor the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities.
  • Assist citizens in reclaiming impounded animals or adopting new animals.

Qualifications

  • Typical Qualifications (Minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification):
  • Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for an Animal Care Technician.
  • A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of six (6) months of experience in an animal care environment involving care, handling, and sheltering of animals or the performance of related work, and a High School diploma or GED.
  • Physical fitness to work with animals and the ability to lift and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Ability to participate with the required City’s Adjusted Workweek Schedule, and work weekends, holidays, and evenings on a rotating shift in order to provide seven day a week coverage for the humane treatment and care for the animals in the shelter.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class “C” California driver’s license. Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
