Registered Vascular Technician
Position Purpose
The Registered Vascular Specialist conducts noninvasive vascular tests to provide data used by physicians in diagnosing and treating arterial and venous disorders. They set up equipment, interview patients, explain test procedures, operate equipment, observe patients during procedures, and alert supervisors, physicians, and nursing personnel to any abnormalities.
What You Will Do
- Receives requests for procedures and arranges for patient testing by ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available.
- Interviews patients to gather and record pertinent personal and medical information, and performs physical examinations including obtaining blood pressure, assessing peripheral pulses, and inspecting limbs.
- Explains test procedures to patients and/or family members to allay fears and elicit cooperation.
- Instructs and/or assists patients in preparing for test procedures.
- Determines appropriate positioning of patients and equipment for obtaining graphic responses, and lifts and positions patients according to diagnostic procedures.
- Operates specialized equipment such as ocularphlethysmograph, carotid phonoangiogram, pulse volume recorder, and impedance phlethysmograph to conduct non-invasive vascular tests.
- Observes patients during procedures and notifies physicians and/or nursing personnel of any irregularities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and up to one year of basic technical training in allied health science.
- No previous experience plus three months or less of on-the-job training and orientation.
- Certified as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
