This vascular sonographer position is based in a busy outpatient vascular surgery department in St. Louis, Missouri, a major Midwest city that blends urban energy with a surprisingly affordable and comfortable lifestyle. St. Louis offers a rich cultural scene, including world-class museums, a renowned zoo, expansive parks and green spaces, vibrant music and arts venues, and professional sports teams. Many of the city’s top attractions are free or low cost, and the region is known for its historic neighborhoods, riverfront views, and diverse dining options.

About the role

Working in this outpatient vascular surgery setting, you will be part of a collaborative, patient-centered team focused on diagnosing and managing a wide range of vascular conditions. The department emphasizes careful, protocol-driven imaging to support timely, accurate clinical decisions and high-quality surgical outcomes. You can expect access to modern ultrasound equipment, digital imaging systems, and structured workflows designed to support both efficiency and quality.

A typical day includes performing a variety of non-invasive vascular studies such as:

  • Peripheral arterial and venous duplex
  • Carotid duplex
  • Venous insufficiency studies
  • Abdominal aortic and iliac evaluations
  • Graft surveillance exams

You will prepare patients, obtain high-quality images, document findings, and communicate pertinent results to the vascular surgery team. Patient interactions are a central component of this role, with time dedicated to explaining procedures, ensuring comfort, and answering basic questions about the imaging process. The outpatient environment generally offers predictable daytime hours with scheduled appointments, providing a structured workflow and minimizing overnight or emergency call demands.

Depending on the department, there may be opportunities to participate in specialized clinics or focused imaging sessions aligned with vascular subspecialties, expanding your skill set and opening pathways for professional growth. Patient volume is typically steady, with scheduling designed to balance thorough examinations and efficient throughput. The department cares for adults with a wide range of vascular concerns, from peripheral artery disease and carotid disease to venous insufficiency and aneurysmal disease.

You will be part of a team that values clear communication, mutual respect, and ongoing learning, and that works closely with physicians, nurses, and advanced practice providers to support comprehensive vascular care. St. Louis’ robust healthcare community offers excellent opportunities for networking, mentorship, and long-term career development.
