Responsibilities

  • Transthoracic echocardiograms
  • Transesophageal echocardiograms
  • Contrast and agitated saline studies
  • Clinical trials and research
  • Low-dose Dobutamine stress testing for aortic stenosis
  • Cardiac surgery OR procedures
  • Cardiac structural procedures, including:
    • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
    • Transcatheter mitral valve repair (MitraClip)
    • Left atrial appendage closure (Watchman)
    • PFO and ASD closure
    • Impella left ventricular support device
    • Left ventricular remodeling (clinical trial)
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations using specialized imaging equipment
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development to care for patients of all ages
  • Review patient history and physician orders to ensure appropriate examination protocols
  • Evaluate, position, and monitor patients during procedures while maintaining comfort, privacy, and safety
  • Operate, maintain, and perform quality assurance checks on ultrasound equipment
  • Recognize normal and abnormal anatomical findings and obtain diagnostic images
  • Document procedures and patient information accurately in electronic medical records and imaging systems
  • Perform patient processing duties, including scheduling, registration, and file management
  • Comply with Carilion Clinic, departmental, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Participate in performance improvement, quality assurance, and patient safety initiatives
  • Assist with orientation, training, and education of students and new staff
  • Maintain professional knowledge and technical competency through continuing education

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program with documented ultrasound training
  • Current ARDMS or ARRT Sonography certification in an applicable specialty area (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, Vascular, or Neurosonography)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS/CCI) in adult echo preferred; new registered graduates encouraged to apply
  • BLS certification required
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to provide compassionate patient care and maintain confidentiality
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and function in a fast-paced environment

Pay

Compensation range: $33.52 – $50.28 per hour. Employee pay is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The range does not include benefits or pension plan.

Schedule

Weekend position: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, 7:00am–7:30pm.
